I am doing operation clean up and need to repaint the engine. It is now blue and I don't know what the original colors were and no one at the dealership can tell me.
Between the end of August and early September of 1976 the Flint engine plant switched to GM corporate blue for its engines. Early 1977's had red engines, but later models were blue. I had a 1977 built in December and it had the blue engine.
Your engine should be GM corporate blue.
Any good auto parts store should have the correct color available.
Thinking of changing to red or chevy orange (my vet is red) what do you guys think? Also was the intake originally painted blue as the rest of the engine?
L 48 iron intake originally painted blue, L82 came with alum. intake not painted.
red like the car be cool look'n, and orange is got that old school chevy look that's allway cool.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing to my '79 and I've settled on painting mine orange. Orange just has that classic chevy look (and not to mention it'll brighten/liven up the look of everything in the engine compartment).
If it looks fast, then most people will think it is fast. In the case of my L-48, I need all the help I can get.
