Need help locating VIN
I am a new C3 owner and new to these boards. I purchased a C3 (1980) with a Daytona Spyder body (think Miami Vice). Great car with stunning body. My problem after installing the brakes and suspension and starting to hang a new muffler system, I discovered that my car is NOT a 1980. After checking the somewhat vague Connecticut title, I realize I need to find the VIN. I found the trim plate in the door jam, but cannot find the actual VIN. Heard there might be a VIN on the frame. Would appreciate any assistance so I can find the number and research the true heritage of this car.

I dont know if the daytona spyder kit replaces the windshield frame or not - the factory VIN is located on the drivers side windshield pillar. I dont know of any full VIN anywhere else on the car....if there is one on teh frame its not in any VISIBLE location - but im skeptical that there is a VIN there anyway,.

Start by finding the VIN on the engine. It should be stamped on the driver side, top front of the engine block, just below the head. Your VIN should be there as well as other identifying stampings. If the VIN differs from your registration, you can decode it and the other stampings to determine what type of engine, when manufactured and what it came out of.

Vin is stamped in the frame - topside - near the drivers side
rear wheel. You may need to lift the body to see anything.
It also may be stamped on the topside of frame near rear of drivers
door - impossible to see without body lift.
If you just want to determine year - then the frame characteristics
can be used to figure that out - within a year or two anyway.

When the FBI checked the VIN stamped on the frame of my 67 (I bought a car that I thought had been stolen), they used a mirror like a dentist mirror to insert just above the frame (and aimed a flashlight at the mirror), and since the VIN is stamped backwards, it could be read from the mirror. I'm not sure how much room you have between the top of the frame and the body above it.
