Default Window Prob...

My drivers side window on my '77 goes up and stops about 4 inches from the top even tho the motor keeps spinning. Any ideas? Think it might be the regulator gear? Ecklers offers 2 regulator gear kits - IF that's the problem (http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...1KGFQ1LAMUEMN9) and (http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...1KGFQ1LAMUEMN9). Have any of you had the same problem and if so, was it the regulator gear? And if so, did you use one of these kits? And if so, which one? Lots of questions I know, but also know you guys are the ones to ask
Thanks, Marc.

Usually this is caused by the gear but the regulator could be really loose at the pivot and pulling away from the motor. Pull the regulator and check it out.

My regulator gear had worn down teeth when I bought my car. So I had to repair that gear you mention.

You may be able to grab the glass and pull it up and catch some good teeth if there are any left. Mine were all ground down just on the tips, but enough that it wouldn't engage with the motor gear no matter where I pulled the window up to.

I bought the cheaper kit. It consists of a stamped thick gage sheet metal gear that basically is screwed right to the old gear. Its definatley cheap. But it does work. I had to pull my regulator out about 3 times before I got it right. If you dont have it exactly matched up to the old gear, it will bind the motor. (I actually welded it to the original gear when I got it perfect, so I know it will stay put). I figured I'd see how well this fix goes. So far it works great. I greased everything up while I had it apart, and my windows fly up and down now. If this fix doesn't last however, (I was skeptical of the gage of the prostetic gear), I will probably just replace the whole regulator. I think the more expensive repair kit actually has a replacement gear in it, but I believe there was a swaged rivet or something that had to come off to swap the gears. Thats why I didn't go that route. It might just be easier to put in a new regulator, than change the gear out, but Im not sure. Anybody here actually do the kit that swaps the gear?

Good luck.
