Default Exhaust setup

I'm going to the muffler shop tomorrow, and I want to know what to get and not just let the guy talk me into whatever will cost me the most. What do you guys recommend for about $400-$500 (with labor) that will perform well and sound mean? 1976 4spd L48

Everyone in the "mean/loud" crow seems to like the Flowmaster 40s. If you want to go even louder, you could just have some glass packs installed. They are super cheap ($25 each or so).

Ultra-flo.....no annoying resonance like the Flowmasters and a good growl.

Do you need to stick with the cat converter? I'd be interested in hearing what you decide to go with! I have to replace mine this winter.

I have to stick with the cat, in cali that's not an option. I'll be sure to post after the install is complete. Any other suggestions?

CHAMBERED!

They sound bloody awesome.

I just have stock on my 70 vette (for which I have bought a set of aluminised side pipes and 69 original covers) - and my vette is pretty quiet with the original set up....so yesterday I heard chambered exhaust for the first time (on a 72) and I tell ya what...it sounded sooo gooood!

So I don't know whether I will go chambered (which only cost about $400 for an aluminised set) or put on my side pipes.

If cost of shipping to Australia wasn't an issue for me.....if I were you I would go chambered!

Chambered

The sound is great. Weld the seams though.

Default dual or 2-1-2

Are you going with duals or 2-1-2 system? I saw you say your keeping the cat, if you go duals, you'll need two cats.

mufflers aside, ANY true dual exhaust will sound good IMHO

True duals with cutouts...

so you can either play nice or let the monster out!
