My C3 is a weekend toy, so will still be driven as such. Happens to have a full tank at the moment, so the next couple of short excursions are covered anyway.
Haven't paid any attention to what the pump prices are up to around here, but do know word is around that today is NO GAS DAY here... IOW, nobody in town is suppose to buy any gas as a sort of protest against greedy station owners who regularly yo-yo their prices to gouge on weekends especially. Will be interesting to see if it really happens. There is a lot of money here across the board in party town and locals aren't afraid to spend it for whatever they want. Kind of silly since with the 3-day weekend half of Los Angeles County will be here for the parties anyway and will have to pay the keepers prices to get home afterward.
the raising gas prices could kill the horsepower war
I don't think it will. "This aluminum–block powerplant, standard in Corvette coupe and convertible, produces 400 horsepower @ 6000 rpm and 400 lb.–ft. of torque @ 4400 rpm. Yet the LS2 engine achieves a remarkable MPG 18 city and 28 highway with the standard six–speed manual transmission.1 Even with its performance, the engine does not incur a federal government gas–guzzler penalty."
I get about 7mpg in the BB but I only drive it about 30 miles per week... so it's still worth it. So about $12-$15 dollars per week to drive plus repairs, mods, etc it only cost me a total of $300 per week to own! Wait, maybe I should get rid it. Nah..
My DD (honda prelude) gets 25mpg so that's not too bad.
I have only been driving my BB about 10 miles per weekend lately. It gets terrible gas mileage, and a drive in the countryside will cost me a tank of gas. So I stopped doing that to save some money.
I get just as much enjoyment out of washing it though, and its a lot cheaper way to spend a Saturday morning.
I have a 427 tripower. I only drive it a couple times a month for a total of about 30 or 40 miles. Even if gas goes up to $4.00/gallon its not really hurting my pocket book that much. If I get approx. 10 miles/per gallon I've only burned 3 or 4 gallons a month - total cost $12.00 - $16.00 per month....who cares.....
Unleaded in Chicago area from 2.80 to 3.20. What's weird is that they had an oil rep on CNN last night. He said the refineries are almost at capacity in LA already. The issue is they had to shut off the electric to the pipeline pumps; which only supply the South and Mid Alantic. He claimed the pipe would be at 65% by tomorrow and 100% within a week. So how can this be causing a .40-.60 swing in prices? It has also been noted that supply shortages today usually don't show up for 60-90 days. So how come the prices shot up overnight if these factors are all true? I think because we will pay it! They do this at regualr intervals. Raise the price higher and higher until we slow down our consumption, then drop it back down .50 and we are happy. They will pull this and you watch two months from now gas will be $2.50 and we will be thrilled! Remember just over a year ago when gas got under $1.00? By these price rasies the law of supply and demand would tell me that we have only 30% capactiy of what we did a year ago. It seems that is complete BS. Just my .02 worth!

My 350 is not a daily driver and my seats are out and a tank full of gas, so I have some reserve for the truck if prices keep going up, as I expect they will.
There got to be a breaking point somewhere, people just can't afford these high prices. My pay sure isn't going up, but my expenses are.
yes it will affect how I drive it. went for a cruise last night, only put $20 in and got 6 gallons. I get about 12 mpg, not too bad, but not good either. It will probably be seeing more and more of the inside of the garage.
Latest is some refineries will be shut down for months in those affected areas...pump prices have hit $5.00 in Mobile ,Alabama...obviously,some gouging going on,but shortages are becoming real....Chevron is cutting back supply to eastern states such as New York...
