Won't effect me to much. I've been too besy working 50 to 60 Hours a week. Doesn't leave to much time for the Vette. Plus I'm getting ready to move into our Brand New House Sept. 16. First time getting one build... pretty awesome.
I put about 4,000 miles a year on my '71. I figure that is about $900 a year in gas at $3 per gallon, so about $450 more per year than I spent before. Gas would have to go up to about $10 per gallon before I even considered curtailing my Vette driving.
Unleaded in Chicago area from 2.80 to 3.20. What's weird is that they had an oil rep on CNN last night. He said the refineries are almost at capacity in LA already. The issue is they had to shut off the electric to the pipeline pumps; which only supply the South and Mid Alantic. He claimed the pipe would be at 65% by tomorrow and 100% within a week. So how can this be causing a .40-.60 swing in prices? It has also been noted that supply shortages today usually don't show up for 60-90 days. So how come the prices shot up overnight if these factors are all true? I think because we will pay it! They do this at regualr intervals. Raise the price higher and higher until we slow down our consumption, then drop it back down .50 and we are happy. They will pull this and you watch two months from now gas will be $2.50 and we will be thrilled! Remember just over a year ago when gas got under $1.00? By these price rasies the law of supply and demand would tell me that we have only 30% capactiy of what we did a year ago. It seems that is complete BS. Just my .02 worth!
The $2.75 is where it should be if you factor in inflation. But, they are greedy, and are shooting themselves in the foot by pushing it to extremes. People will be forced to change thier life styles and scrap thier SUV's for econo-cars(like in the mid '70's). If they were smart, they would hold fuel prices at a point where we would maximize our useage.
My 'vette is a toy
my 71 BB is just a when i feel like uncovering and going for a short cruise car... i put less than a 1000 mi. on a year so as long as there's gas to be had, i'll keep cruising... gas jumped from 3.25 this morn up to 3.70 for high test this evening.... i tell ya, they bending me over here and no lube...
