Rebuild complete! (long)
Finally.. What started out as a simple valve job turned into the rebuild from Hell. My brother has a shop in Indy, about 1000 miles away from me. He said to take the car up to him, and he would do the work for me in his spare time. He ended up shelving the entire engine and building up an engine from a donor 4 bolt main block with all the goodies. I ended up with too big of a carb, so I have an extra Speed Demon 750 if anyone here wants it.
The ride from Indy to Tampa was almost uneventful. I broke an alternator belt in Nashville, and the speedo cable broke outside of Louisville. It appears that the water pump pulley is slightly hitting the crankshaft pulley, so I will hit a speed shop for a slightly smaller one. I got about 10 miles per gallon, so there were plenty of gas stops. If not for the Atlanta traffic and fatal accident on a bridge across Tampa bay, the trip would have taken about 17 hours.
Here's what I ended up doing:
Block
Steel crank
Domed pistons
Cam
Intake
Carb
Dart Heads
Headers
A/C (never worked in the 11 years I owned the car)
Power steering box, pump, slave cylinder, and control valve
Heater core
Misc suspension parts
Anyway, I am back home with the car. I need to detail it and work out the bugs, but it sure drives nice!

I am using the pulley off the old motor. I was going to hit a speed shop and see if they had anything with a slightly smaller diameter.

Brianlewis60, No one responded to my thread in C3 parts for sale yet, so you have dibs. PM sent. Sorry for not responding sooner, but I am blocked from the forum at work.

I'm not using my air cleaner anymore on my '68.. I have a Drop Base setup with a 2 1/4 inch K&N Filter element... It was flowing enough air to go 11.05. Let me know if you want it!!
