Default Turnsignals not flashing?

Today my turnsignals on my Vette stopped working. They light up but will not flash. I changed out the flasher unit but still no flashing. The hazards work and blink. All the bulbs are lighting up and fuses appear to be working. What could be wrong?

Did you swap the flasher and signal unit?
Also do all your brake lights work?

Yes all brake lights work. I bought a new flasher can and installed it in the fuse block but apparently that is only for the 4 way flasher (hazards). Where is the actual signal flasher located?

Same on my 70, one flasher on the fuse block and one behind the map pocket.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the 77 turn signal system is the same as the 78's. lok under the dash on the right side and see if you see one.. if not, pull the glove box out. Any 78 owners off the top of their head know where the 2nd flasher is on a 78???

It's over on the passenger side behind the "map pocket" according to this.

Default turn signal flasher question

I'm trying to replace my turn signal flasher. I've read somewhere in the forum that it is located behind the map pocket area. All I see back there is a black three pronged unit plugged into the wire harness. The replacement that I got from Year one is a metallic two pronged unit that is exactly like the hazard flasher in my car. Is this an after market type that's in my car or is it something else and I just haven't seen it yet. I didn't take the map pocket dash panel off, I just looked underneath it.

Rhill13,
My turn signal flasher is plugged into the wiring harness behind the passenger side dash. It sounds like maybe you were sold the hazard warning flasher by mistake, and that flasher plugs into the fuse panel under the driver side dash up on the left side of the firewall.

Default still looking

Am I missing something? Is the turn signal flasher not the same shape and metal as the hazard flasher? The hazard flasher is metallic while the only thing I see behind the map pocket area is a black plastic unit plugged into the harness. The kit I got from Year One says that it includes both the hazard flasher and the turn flasher and they both read the same part number. I think they read 552 if I'm not mistaken and they're both metallic with two prongs.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have a 78 pace car --- there are three flasher units -- one on the fuse panel >> hazard flasher, one in the center counsel >> security system and the third for the turn signals is below the glove box adjacent to duct -- this one (at least on mine ) was plastic, I replaced it with std 552 and works fine

I'll look again at the black plastic plug that's behind the map pocket, but I swear it had three prongs not the two that are on the 552. Was that what you had too. Also, was your turn signal flasher mounted our just loosely hanging on to the wire harness? I thought I had seen a diagram before that suggested the turn flasher was mounted more to the right side of the passenger dash area than mine is. Mine is pretty much centered with the map pocket. If your 552 plugged right in the wire harness okay with just using the two plugs, then that's what I'm going to have to try.

yeah, just two prongs, old one was plastic -- replaced with std 552 -- location was pretty much centered in a "snap-in" clip

good luck!

The three-pronged plug-in that looks like a flasher or relay may be the timer for the seatbelt warning lamp. This timer is located very close to the turn signal flasher on my 76 and looks pretty similar except that it has three prongs. BTW, I haven't been able to find a replacement timer for my burned-out one. Anybody know a source?
