When did the switch from the 160 - 85 mph speedometers occur? I swear I've seen same model year cars with the 160 and others with the 85. Did this change occur on all models (L48/L82) at once or is it just people swapping parts?
1980 was the year. The same Government agency that says we need differant formulas for gas depending on where you live, made it a law that ALL cars had speedos that would only show 85 mph. I belive it was the EPA.
That 85MPH Speedo bugged me enough that I had to change it out to a 140MPH unit.If and when I am up in the triple digits I like to know how fast Im going. You can change it out pretty easily.

That's the excuse I used to my wife when trying to justify the change. "Honey, I've GOT to know when to start getting scared!"

Relax. I'm sure if you're doing triple digits the local constabulary will be more than happy to tell you hiow fast you were going. They'll probably even provide printed documentation for your trophy case.
Great logic. If the top end on the speedo is 85, that is as fast as you can go. Isn't government great? Oops, I sse W lookin over my shoulder now

What the HECK does W have to do with something that happened in 1980. Do you liberal wienies blame Bush for everything. Wake up, pay attention. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person!!!!!!!!
