Have a 1970. The amber lights on the left and right SIDE of the front fender light up with the headlights but DO NOT flash when the front turn signals (indicators) flash. Is this normal for a 1970?
A friend has a 1972 and his fender lights flash out of sync with the front turn signals but they DO flash.
The fender lights should flash and they do flash out of sequence. It has to do with how GM grounded the bulbs to make them flash since they only have one filament in them. If they are not flashing, check the bulbs then all the wiring.
Basically, when I hit my horn, my indicator lights came on. Bad ground from the radiator to the frame. This page has some great info on how the turn signals and such work.
On 71 & 72 year models, the front side markers flash "out of sync" from the front turn signals when the headlights are on; they flash "in sync" with the front turn signals when the headlights are off. Don't know that the side markers flash at all on a 70 though.

According to the later C-3 schematics they ground the light to get it to flash.
It does appear that for our year that the marker ight has +12v and ground and no connection to the marker cct.Checked all my grounds and all seems good.
Anyone else have a 70 that the marker lights DO or DON'T flash???????
Thanks,
Pete
I cannot tell if the 70 schematic is the same as laer years at first look. Going to keep tracing.
Hmmm...I never thought the side marker lights on my '70 were part of the turn signals. I'll check the schematics when I get home tonight...
Aha! Just as I thought. The side marker lights on the '70 are not connected to the signals.
I agree with schematics and also my service manual does not mention the sidemarkers with signal operations either. Mine do not flash on my 70, but work just fine when lights are on as side markers ( no signals flash )
I wonder if there are Vettes that have poor grounds or weak electronics that cause the side marker lights to *appear* to flash when the blinkers are on - and it's just the extra current draw that makes the side markers dim. That would explain the "opposite" flashing...
It seems to me that, unless your wiring is different than the schematic, you would have to have "Xmas tree" type self-flashing bulbs to get the markers to flash. There isn't a flasher in the circuit. (And then they would flash all the time they were on).

Z-man, Cosmic, Eddie,
Do your marker lights flash when the emergency flasher is pressed?
Well this is seems like an epic larger then Star Wars. I went and changed all my bulbs and checked my flasher. I have the following:
All Marker Lights - 168 Bulbs (single filament)
All Turn Signals - Orange Bulb 1157A (double filament)
Reverse Lights - 1141 Clear Bulb
Flasher - Heavy Duty - 536
I am starting to trace the schematic tonight. I have a 72 manual to compare to my 70 manual. See if they are the same or diiferent. I have a friend with a 72 and his marker lights flash as do some other people o the forum.
I need the corvette fairy to come and fix my lights!
False Alarm. Man, I appologize. I could absolutely, positively, swear that my corner lamps blinked because I just put the lights back together a few months ago after paint, and I put in new bulbs where needed and double checked all of them for function.
Well, after this thread got started, I decided to go out and check them so I could report back. Well they are NOT blinking. They stay nice and steady when the signals are blinking, which would seem to match the schematic shown in the earlier post.
I guess I was mistaken. Sorry about that. I still think a gremlin must have snuck out and changed them. I was really sure they blinked as recently as a couple weeks ago, when I checked the bulbs again. The only thing, is I know I have a bad ground on one of the rear tail lamp housings. But I dont know that that would do anything with the corners. Its possible I have a fluke scenario here and I will keep an eye on them, but they really appear for the moment like they are not supposed to blink.
