I pulled a windsheild out of my Suzuki Sidekick last week, it was already broken though...
I used a 1 inch wide putty knife with the end sharpened, and used a rubber mallet to go through the sealant one inch at a time from the inside. Took me about an hour. I hear that some people use "wire saws" (ya know like Rambo uses to cut down trees). You get a small section started with the putty knife, then pass the wire through and saw the sealer/gasket material on the inside and the outside of the window you cut it all the way around.
Most people go to car glass places, they do it all the time, have the right tools, and the price is usually pretty reasonable.
you can cut it out with a long piece of piano wire. get a piece about 4 feet long wrap the ends around some type of wood scrap for handles and start sawing away at it. start at one corner and work your way around. thats how we used to do it in the 70's before they came out with urethane glue.
The problem usually isn't getting the windshield out (unless you plan to reuse it). The fun begins upon installation of a new one. Be sure to note how high the old one fits in the birdcage and chrome trim. See if there are any spacers under the glass. It is critical to get the new glass at the same height as the old one or your trim will not fit right. Don't trust the installers. Don't ask me how I now.
get some of that square wire from a place that does windshields. I removed mine, used a small putty knife to make a hole, then used a needle to push the wire through and started sawing..not that big a problem but when I was done the windshield still cracked because the jerk from carglass (company that replaces windshields) smeared the adhesive where it shouldn't have gone and the wire didn't cut through that (I had the windshield replaced a couple of years earlier because an axe fell through the old one) so..that's 2 broken windshields
