Default Another "What's it worth thread"

I have the option to buy a 1971 Corvette Coupe and am taking a ride today to go and check it out. I'm interested to see what others think it's worth since the owner is asking for "best offers".

1971 Coupe, 454 (non matching # motor but car originally came with 454) and a 4 speed tranny (matching #). From what I've been told the interior is geen and in fair condition but with some splitting on the door panels. Very solid frame but needs brake work. Car came with A/C but the compressor and condenser are now missing. The car has been painted white but was originally green. Has some glass repair under grille area, rear valance, left front fender, and top of right front fender.

The car has been sitting but he said it runs and drives good. Title reads 60,000 and the car shows 61,000 on speedometer. (no documentation on this other than on title). Needs brake work.

So what is a reasonable price?

I'd start thinking around 8 - 10K - assuming your interested in buying yourself a mild project car.

From the NADA Guide: Low retail = $8500.00

"Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is"."

Offer $6000.00

So I went over and took a look at the car last weekend. I've attached a few of the photos I took below. The car was pretty much as he described on the phone. Engine runs, but needs a tune up. Needs new brakes (calipers & master cylinder), needs new carpet, interior is in overall fair condition and the paint is in fair condition (I would reapaint anyhow) We've tossed numbers back and forth for a few days and I've only been able to get him down to $9500. What do you guys think? Too much, good deal, about right?

I question whether I like the green interior, maybe it'll grow on me with time. How does the green rank when it comes to desireable interior colors? (I know, I know, it doesn't matter what other people think...)

Thanks in advance!
