Default Shift linkage question...

I have blasted the linkage bracket and linkage arms... is there anything else I should be doing to this shift linkage while its out??? I dont really see anything there to rebuild except maybe to take it completely apart for cleaning and lube... please advise? Don

I bought one of those shifter rebuild kits but after taking it all apart and cleaning it up I found it to be in great shape. Ended up only using the new shifter ball. You would have to have a LOT of wear to benefit from the shim in the kit.

If you want a shorter throw, use the holes closest to the shaft on the shifter arms. Disregard if these are the ones you already use.

Thanks Feedvaal...yea, I've seen the kit, but was wondering what was actually in it as looking at the unit(without taking it apart) I dont see much there. Z-man, yes I am moving holes... as I did read about this issue on this site, thanks for jogging my memory! Don

I just finished rebuilding my shifter this past weekend with one of those kits as well. I used the new standard shim, but probably didn't even need it. The biggest benefit was just taking the shifter apart, cleaning it up, greasing it and putting it back together.
