Default doing rebuild need advice

79 all stock L48

going with edlb 64cc heads
ele. ignition - EFI flamethrower
performer intake, carb still researching, headers, already have true duals with magnaflow.

My question is about the cam. Leaning toward a 268 but I have read several different views on here. Let me explain how I drive and all advice and opinions are welcome

Weekend driver. I cruise around in the country and in town. I will never race it but I like to step on it on at times. I don't turn the radio on because the exhaust is the music to my ears. This bring me to the cam size. As a kid, the sound of a hotrod loping like it was about to die was music to my ears. I want my engine to lope as much as it can but still be on par with the other mods being made. I know nothing about engines so this has been and will be a tough research project for me.

thanks for any input

You sound like you are in a similar situation to me....desire to improve performance but not a lot of knowledge with picking / working on engine internals. I will be interested in hearing what people say here.

As for my research, there are some pretty good looking top-end packages from edelbrock which include cam that are pretty appealing (summitracing sells as a complete package). I am also looking at just going with a complete swap. Cost of building out top end will likely be 2-3k. New engine, ready to run, 4-7k depending on what I settle on.
