I am trying to lacate the correct build sheet for my 71 LT1.
Also I would like to find out the Dealer it was shipped to from the factory.
Please help, tmickey
Unless your Corvette was sold in Canada new, you will not have any luck with GM on your cars history.
There a chance that your build sheet (called an Corvette Order Copy) is still attached to the top of the gas tank. Removal of the tank will verify this. Some owners have discovered an additional sheet located inside the car, between instrumentation, under carpet, etc.
Tracking down past ownership is another possiblity. Good luck in your quest to document your LT-1.
Copies of dealer invoices only available for Vettes from GM year 77 and up...your only chance besides build sheet is backtracking your vin thru DMV...I'm in the same fix with a 69 I just bought..so far I've traced it back to an owner in Wisconsin(1990) via receipts I got with Vette...
Good luck..
start with a title search, from stat to state if need be, until you locate the original. it should have the dealer where the vehicle came from. i bought my 72 in 74, so it wasn't such a big deal when i did the search about 11-12 years ago, only having to go back three states. the original dealer was malcom conner chevrolet in nj, but titled in florida. i call directory assistance in fl and got connected to the 'original owner'?
it was his dad, who said he never had a 72 lt-1, so i was feeling pretty sunk. next day his son called me, an exec with ashland oil, and we talked about the car. he still had all the documentation on when he ordered the car and invoice of when it came in, and a few warranty receipts. HE SENT EVERYTHING TO ME...FREE. was i a thankful puppy.
