Default 68 Gas Lid experts needed

MY vette has the cobra gas lid on it and I want to put it back to OEM, Are the lid and bezel a one only year part? or will 68-72 or later fit. Thanks

Let me get it off, I have the lid off but there is a neck that bolts to the tank and then the outside area of the setup that I have not figured out how to get it off yet. Looks like they really glued it on tight. I will let you know how it goes, but you are welcome to it.

68 was a one year only part. If you want it to be 100 % correct you will need to get the 68 part otherwise a 69-72 will fit. The lid of the 68 part is rivited to the hinge whereas the 69-72 gas door is screwed to the hinge.

Reagrds,

Jay

AND, in addition, the crossed flag emblem is "spun riveted" to the lid, not screwed on with acorn nuts like 69-up. Chuck

Also the '68, '69 & '70 style uses a clasp to secure lid closure. '71, '72 & on use a spring loaded hinge for closure.

Also, there is no spring loaded hinge. The door is held open by a small clip that seems extremely prone to breakage.

I'd do a 69 lid assembly.
