Compression Ratio
I understand that an engine's displacement is the difference in volume between bottom- & top-dead-center, but how is compression ratio calculated? Specifically, how do vehicles with the same displacement end up with different compression ratios?

Aside from displacement, an engine's stroke, bore, and piston shape (whether it is dished or flat or whatever) all factored in.

The CR is the ratio of the volume you spoke of to the volume that's left at the top above TDC (usually the vol of the head chamber + valve relief in the head).
