G'evening members, Today I removed the windshield as old had a small crack. I removed sealants and stripped down to metal. I have two very small ares of just below surface rust near either side of the T-bar. My question after clean, prime & paint... is there anything I can do in this area to prevent water holding? Thanks!!! Don
Don,
Keep it clean, prep and paint it with a good sealer primer and paint, (the whole window frame would be best) and when you have a window put in it ask the installer about a good water resistant sealant for it, th e trick is not to have any areas that can hold water instead of letting it run off to either side. If you prep and paint it right you shouldnt have any problems for many years to come.
Don - What did you have to do to remove your windshield? I've been debating doing this but haven't been able to see how the outside trim comes off. Do you need to take off the chrome to get the windshield out, and if so, how is this done?
Thanks, VG
Vettevic, yes, this is exactly what I was thinking, I was just wondering if there was a stratigic hole or two I could drill so, if, there was water penatration it would be able to run out... thought maybe, there was a certain way to treat this area. Thanks
Vette gator, mine is a 72, I removed the side trim (unscrews), the top trim just pops up, be carefull with this piece as you dont want to demple it. I had a windshield guy come out and remove mine as it was in the price with the installed new one. You just take a razor knife (Stanley) and cut around it for removeal.
just took my screen out yesterday and it has 2 largish holes, one either side at the bottom,
they look to me like they are designed to drain away any condensation that may gather on the inside of the screen,
natt
camaroneil I just had me windsheild replaced this week. When the glass was out the installer was wondering what the hole were for. After checking the AIM manual is states these holes are" indexing holes" what they index I never could find out. But the sealant goes below the holes so the arent for drainage. The holes go down in to the dash...
