Blue 35,
My coupe is the same color as your convertible.
You have a nice set of expensive bookends.
Enjoy,
Kurt

Hello,
I have owned mine for 7 years and still working on it. But, the last couple of years have been a blast because I've been able to drive it. Right now I'm in the middle of trying get the smog system re-installed.
The fever has its highs and lows but it never goes away. You just have to keep plugging along .

Bryan,
I am missing the entire smog system.
Where did you get the parts for yours?
I am told it is extrenely expensive.
Does it affect the performance significantly one way or another?

Kurt,
Most of it came via ebay, the swap meet at your finger tips..and other internet sources.

Being the tight wad that I am, I've spent the last few years watching for parts and trying to get them at a reasonable prices but it is getting harder to do. I'll have around $600.00 in it when finished.

I been told the system has no real horse power drag. I'm setting my system up for show only. Which means plugging the exhaust holes and gutting the pump.

Big G,
$3,000.00 for smog equipment?????????/
I only paid $2,900.00 for the whole damn car.
What did you use as a source for the smog parts.
I see a gentleman by the name of Holdell who advertises in the NCRS magazine. Are these parts really that rare or can they be found in a junkyard and restored?

It's been several years, that name sounds familiar. Yes, 3g's..I had to get manifolds, metal tubes, check-valves, brackets, pulleys...the whole deal.. And it costs a bunch to have the correct part numbers and date codes...I figure I'll more than recover when I sell this jewel...

Welcome to the forum...glad there's another 68 British Green. I started on mine way back when in '75, then lost interest...school, kid, blah..blah...blah...had the frame dipped at that time and painted Imron. 1998, my son asked what's in the garage with all the crap on it...was covered with junk and barely tell there was a car there...anyway, started on the resto, complete interior, wiring, new glass, everything except the chassis and suspension in March, 1999. Completed in Jan, 2001.

Worked on it night and day, hit the proverbial wall a few times, and seemed to lose interest a few times, but kept pushing and finally done, been driving it, as a daily driver during late spring, summer, and early fall, except when it rains...

Thanks!!! As you know its not easy and in the end I think it will be worth it. So many one year items on this one year! I was told I should have parted it out because it was worth more in parts being a low option small block. No way that was happening!!! I've had her over 20 years and shes a keeper! The 68 has been off the road since 93 and the only thing keeping me from going nuts is driving my 72 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 4 speed from time to time. Thanks for your response, real nice board here, AL.

I sent out my inside center header trim (above the windsheild) and I was told it was for a 69???? I know this is never been removed. What is the difference in the 68and 69 header trim? AL.

I bought my 68 smog system (air pump, diverter, all brackets) for $300, from Bill Hodel. Look in Hemmings news under smog parts. Get his number. He does NOT have a toll free #, and he loves to talk. He is an EXPERT in our smog (air) systems, and a great guy. The parts I got were in no less than exc condition. Proper markings, fan color, etc

I got the air tubes from paragon

MelvinJ,
You received a bargain. Just a month or two ago he quoted me $1400.00 plus freight for a system for my 68 small block.

There was a guy name "Pacific Bob" or Ebay that was selling odd parts like the small cross flags for the shift console, sunvisior pins kits and had one item I thought I'd never find....... the lens set for a 68 coupe inside in the sail panels. BTW I paid $275.00 for a mint condition 68 4 speed shift console, did I get burned? AL.

I want to hear more about the lenses for the sail panel. How are they and do they look like the originals?

Al,
Those lenses have to be one of the hardest parts to find for a 68 and when I was looking, noone was reproducing them. I even went so far as to speak with a manufacturer to see what the tooling cost and minimum production run would be to have these made and I would resell them. Then along came someone who had a set of new ones and I wanted to buy them at any cost, and he gave me the set free of charge.
Those lenses are certainly hard to come by.

Kurt, you are the lucky one!!! Free!!!! I think I paid around $45.00 for the pair 5 or 6 years ago and was glad to get them, the original ones are yellow and one has a tab broke off. AL.
