Default Need tire options

I am looking to replace tires to raised white letters in sizes 235/70-15 front and 255/70-15 rear. What are the best tires for the stock wheels?

Default I have been looking at these...

Dunlop G/T Qualifier
They come in both 235 and 255 width

Chris B

225x70x15 = 27.5" Dia = Stock size
235x70x15 = 28.1" Dia
255x70x15 = 29.2" Dia (These might be a bit too tall)

I suggest to go with 255-60 front and 275-60 or 295-50 rear, you'll have to relocate the parking brake cable bracket with these big tires...

The 255-70 is very big (>29") and won't fit the wheelwell

I currently run 275-60 tires in the rear and consider 295-50 instead because of the sidewall flex - you can see the tire flexing a lot (at least 1/2" each side) when pushing the car left/right by hand

If you want tires that fit without problems I'd get 245-60 and 255-60

On my 79 I run Goodyear VR60 - 245 X 60 X15, they fit perfect.

My car originally came with the 225/70x15s. Last year, I swapped them for the 255/60x15s on all four corners then had the car aligned. I've had no problems with the fit.

27.1"

The BFG tires are ok, but keep in mind that none of these 15" tires is compareable to modern 16" or 17" tires... unfortunately there's no market for high performance 15" tires in the size we need....I think the Pirelli tire is the only tire in that size that's rated better than "S" or "T"

Im going to get goodyear eagle gt 11's - and I agree - 255 x 60R and 275 x 60R (as opposed to the 70R).

the problem with the eagle gt is that I don't think they come in 245's or 265's........
I don't want tire rub problems or parking brake issues and so was thinking 245 and 265 would be a better combination for front and rear than 255 and 275.
and thats a bummer cause I like the eagles

Ive seen peoples vettes with the firehawk 's ...and they look pretty good.

BANKOKDEAD>> what tires do you have on your vette at the moment?

Default Tires & Wheels

If you ever considered switching to 17" wheels, Mid-America, through SLP, now has a 17 x 8" wheel w/tire package (P245/45R17) that is a direct bolt on for C3's. We used them for Project Shark Attack, the Corvette Fever Magazine project car, and they really get noticed. After 4-5 thousand miles of driving it, the combination drives very nicely and improves handling, too.

I have the T/A radials and I found that they hydroplane really well, and I have abou 80% tread. It had just finished raining and I was going up an on-ramp and it didn't want to turn until I got out of the throttle and let the front settle in.

225x70x15 = 27.5" Dia = Stock size
G/T Qualifier 255x60x15 are 27.0 inches in diameter
Radial T/A 255x60x15 are 27.1 inches in diameter

ok cool.

Are you looking at importing the tires for your vette from the USA?

basically the only choice of tire I have to put on my vette here (in Australia) (white lettering sports tires) are BF goodrich...which do come in 245 and 265 sizes.

If I want the Goodyear Eagles (GT11) or Firehawk or any other..then I have to import them from the USA...which if your not in a rush and are happy waiting for them to come in a container then they can work out at a good price.(from what Ive heard).

so, have you decided what tires and size you want for your vette?

Thanks for the info, Im looking to import by sea freight along with a friend here that also has a 81 vette. We are leaning to the firestone firehawk indy 500 that is mentioned above. For me the 255/60/15 fronts and 265/60/15 rears this keeps me in the 27+ inch area. My friend wants a smaller width front
