Sorry...please don't take my comments personally. I know & like many good people that drive C5's. But that doesn't mean I have to like their choice of cars (the C5/C6 is a borderline "chick car" and I always remind my friends who drive them...in good fun, of course).
And I'm not into that "brotherhood" thing. Either you drive a C3 or you don't....
Yiii! Beware when people ask you to do that. Usually they sincerely want to see burning rubber, but when I was on a ride at the beach one day, these old potheads were hanging out in their yard and one of them yelled for me to do a burnout. I didn't do one because I couldn't with the pitiful smog motor in the '80. I'm not into corner burnouts anyway. Right when I turned the corner there was a cop sitting there doing radar. Not sure if they knew the law was hanging out there. I was thankful for the underpowered motor that day.
I get that once in a while. What really gets me is when someone driving a late model car of some kinds say, "I always wanted one of those." I don't say it out loud but my reaction is "then go buy one." Lets face it, you can pick up a late 70's early 80's Corvette in decent shape for well under $10k. If you can afford a new Honda you can certainly afford an old Corvette. If you need a family friendly car, buy a 5 year old Honda and a '78 Corvette.
One thing I have noticed is that most everyone always over values my 'vette. I've had several people state that they don't have $40,000 to drop, and they could not afford the insurance. Little do they know.
BTW the 1980-1982 body style were one of my my all time favs !!!
here's a pic of the 1980 I once had (bought it brand new). Pic taken in fall of 1981:
Man that black looks great! You just don't see that many black ones. My '80 is Red. If I lived in Northern (cooler) climes I might have had it painted black.

[QUOTE I once had a state trooper pull me over just to ask about my Vette. Anxiety to ego boost in 10 seconds flat![/QUOTE]
Had just bought my '66 427/450 vert and was cruzing on a highway in Washington, D.C., where I lived at the time, when a cop pulled me over. Thought I was bagged for sure. This big black State Trooper comes up and smiles saying I wasn't in any trouble that he just wanted to tell me how much he loved the Vette and such. Then he says:" How about getting it once for me?" I couldn't believe my ears. I replied you want me to do a burn out, here? You gonna bust me then, right?" He laughed and said, No, that he just wanted to see how powerful these new 427's were. With a bit of concern in my heart, I raised the revs up to about 5,000, dumped the clutch and planted my foot clear to the floor. Got it all through 1st, 2nd and 3rd before letting off. The next thing I know here he comes flying up behind me, and I just KNEW I was busted big time, but he pulled up along side, hugh grin on his face and gave me a big thumbs up and pulled on away down the highway! That was almost 40 years ago, but probably one of the coolest memories I ever had about my vette. I think that had a lot to do with me becoming a police officer many years later and how I responded to hot rodders when I had an encounter with them. In fact, I relived that senerio once or twice in reverse while on duty in Daytona Beach, Fl.
One morning my wife followed me to work - me in my 79 coupe, her in her 02 Explorer. She said that as I went down one road with at leat 6 or 7 school bus stops every kids head turned as I drove by. Must have been the loud exhaust!
