If you bought it for looks, then keeping it stock is much easier and it will be a much better investment. But just beware that almost any new car will be faster.
I think I would do something in between. Maybe keep the engine looking stock on the outside, but inside it could be a 383, with a bigger cam.
Is it a stock L-48 or L-82, I kept my 1979 350/ L-82 and had a complete re-build done. I guess the only thing stock about it is now the block. It now dyno's at 375hp, it may have been cheaper for me to drop in a Stroker motor, but I'm very happy with the out come as I ended up with speed/HP and stock (sort of - numbers match) Good luck on whatever choice you make. Just enjoy your ride
Sorry I thought I posted that thread but I COULDN'T find it, so I created another one. Thanks for the advise now I just have to decide on how fast I want to go!!

Just remember "FAST" is really never fast enough omce you get used to the speed. If you really are concerned with the numbers matching part of it, build another engine and store the original one for a later day. The biggest thing to me is being able to drive the thing and enjoy it. If you want an investment call Merryl Lynch or however you spell it, if you want to have fun build the car how you want it.
