Default Ouch !!

Corvette died coming off freeway yesterday...one backfire and dead....had absolutely nothing..son and I pushed vette off ramp turning left (slightly downhill) I was by drivers side when vette picked up speed...tried to jump in when rear wheel caught my left foot...knocked me to pavement...vette stopped on my ankle..yelled at son to push...got my left foot out and it ran over my right foot (legs were crossed)...the vette started rolling again, and I got up,caught up with it,reached in pulling e-brake...by then the pain to my left ankle and knee was really apparent..you would not believe the pain...noticed door ajar light was on..got in,and it started...could barely get clutch in,but made it home...
I felt so stupid I was mad at myself for trying to jump in like that....
Oh,vette will not start again..nothing,no cranking..but I have to fix myself first...got a severe sprain to left knee, and BFG tire track on left pant leg... Wife and I are laughing about it this morning, but that knee really hurts...hope there is a good football game on.. :o

Well at least the Vette is not damaged. Really that is to bad. Get your foot and knee back in shape before trying to catch the Vette again. That sounds painful. All you can think about in that situation is saving the car.

I would have been freaking out at the same time also. I have heard of people running over there feet in the vette trying to push the vette. OUCH!!!

I have made my own bonehead mistakes also. I made a run down to the autoparts store in town just shortly after getting mine. It had been having a hard time trying to start. When I got to the parts store they were closed. I was a little upset. So I jumped in the car and it would just barely turn over and would not start. So I got out and checked the battery connections. BAD MISTAKE. I reached down and grabbed the battery terminal good and tight so I could give it a twist if it was loose. My finger and my thumb on my right hand sizzled and I could not turn loose fast enough. There was no water anywhere I could find to ease the burn. There was a drink machine on the curb. My wallet was in the wrong pocket for my left hand to easily reach. Finally dug my wallet out and got me a cold Mountain Dew and held on to that sucker for 20 minutes before trying to leave again. It was a struggle to get the car started much less change gears and steer with manual steering. I learned a valuable lesson that day and one I will not soon forget. That has been about 6 years ago or so and my thumb still itches and will peel in the same burn spot once in a while.

Yep.I will be there....fixed the problem,I hope...seems the Sony CD was wired to the "on" side of the ignition switch...vibration caused intermittant operation of the CD...just by chance, this morning,I pulled the detachable control..and the beast started...think it is solved now...makes my knee feel better too...no blown fuses or anything...

I'll say thats a stupid thing to do.... thats what wives and kids are for. They push the Vette and you stay inside to steer and brake it.
In this case to start it.

Just make sure the ignition is on. Thats a sure way to get murdered!

( For the female Vette owners.)
Thats what husbands and kids are for

Rich,

I'm glad your situation wasn't more serious, as that is one dangerous manuever. I know, as I too, had a similiar incident occur to me back in 1975, when my former 1968 (manual transmission) Vette died at a downhill insection at night. The incident resulted in pulling my left knee out of joint and severely straining my ligaments. I had to push the car (uphill) to get it off of my ankle. It took a few months for me to recover from that one. To this very day, that left knee still bothers me occasionally.

Ouch, I don't want to think about how many cars I've had on my toes at my last job but fortunately MOST of them only weighed about 1000lbs.

That rear wheel is deceptively close to the door

I'm sure mine will smart for a while...I could not believe how fast it happened...imagine one foot in the car and another under the wheel..
