I just purchased a C3 last week and the windshield wipers didn't work. Put a new motor, switch and fuse in and when I turn the swhitch on the washer pump comes on and stays on and the wipers only engage if you hold the pressure washer button in and hold it in, at either speed, low or high. I disconnected the washer pump at the pump and the wipers will work if you hold the switch in, low or high.
Also now the lights won't come up and the "red" head lights warning light comes on. The head lights are on, but they won't raise, as they did just the other day when I changed a light.
Would my disconnecting the wahser pump do any of that, or did I mess something up when I changed out the fuse for the wipers?
Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar problem with the wipers on my 70 vette.
Turned out the connector plug going into the back of the wiper switch was upside down ---flipping it upside down solved the problem!
it didn't look like it was meant to be connected the right way - it looked like the wrong way (the upside down way) was the right way ..if that makes sense
and mounting the wiper switch panel in the dash acts as a ground.......Im just mentioning this in case you do what I did.... ---tested the switch before I mounted it into the dash - cause it won't work..! without it being grounded.
As the headlights go up and down via vacuum, I'd suspect you dislodged a vacuum hose somewhere in the process of addressing the wipers. Check around that general area looking for any loose hoses, etc. Also check under the dash by the override and headlight switches. Lastly you could also check the vacuum cans behind the grill for any loose hoses in that area. Mine seem to magically disconnect themselves there at regular intervals. Guess it's time for some new vacuum line.
