Default bumper plating

I check with chrome plating shops and they want $200 to 250 for each for left and right bumper on my 1970 and that's if they don't have to do much cleanup.

I can buy new bumpers for $421 including shipping from mid America.

Does the quote from chrome shop seem right? Is there any reason not to buy new instead.

That price seems in line. If you look around on places like Ebay, you can find guys who will chrome them for $150 but then you have to ship them so add at least $40 and you are getting back up there. You do not want repops IMO. I tried that route and they were so wavy it makes you sea sick looking at them. A lot of them do not fit right either. You will be happier in the long run just replating yours.

I've plated stuff at the local plating shops out here before. The quality was better than what came from the factory or on repro items because that's all they do. I'll be re-chroming mine when the time comes - plus it's half the price...

Default I guess I'll bite the bullet

I thought it would be about half the price of new ones but it seems the chroming prices are more than new ones. Mine have just slight rust pitted and chrome plating price quotes I got are around $500 for both rear bumpers and that seemed high to me since new ones are about $425., but I guess everything has gone up.

Believe me, for the extra $75 bucks, the rechromes are the way to go. If you get aftermarket the chrome will probably not last as long anyway and in the long run you spend more. I have learned this lesson many times on these cars. Just get what you want and pay the money to do it right the first time. You may save money now but always seems to cost more in the long run.

The re chrome job I got was "show" quality and much better than the OEM chrome job. Plus you know that your bumpers will fit your holes.

Those prices are about what I paid locally last year.
