My 71 Vette has a dual points centrifugal advance distributor on it. It has no vacuum advance. I sent it in to a Corvette shop nearby and he said this type of distributor that's on it only came on a 62 model with the 340 horse 327 engine. I guess it was on there when I got it as I have not changed it. He said that it would probably run better if I got the dist. that was supposed to be in there, but they don't know yet if it's causing the skipping on acceleration. They got the valve covers off and did a couple of tests yesterday. One of the mechanics is gone to the doctor this morning and as soon as he gets back, they'll hit it and find out what's going on. They're going to start by adjusting valves then see what next. I was just kind of shocked that I didn't even have the original distributor on my car.

That distributer is probably worth some money. Take care of it.
It may be worth something to a collector but for a street car its a piece of junk. Get an HEI or a points distributor and convert it or a pointless distributor... and with vacuum advance.
Mostly the vacuum advance.
I don`t want to burst anyones bubble BUT GM sold thousands of those 1110985 dual point tach drive distributors "over the counter" popular (in it`s day) yes, valuable.....NO. They are on ebay (almost) on a daily basis.

Tried a quick reply earlier, and it went to deep reply space. I will concur with redvetracer. I also think you bought your COrvette from the same place I did. I was tinkering with my car when I first bought it, and noticed no vacuum advance can. I called the seller, and Bubba says "Oh yeah, I had to replace that with a dist. out of a 1959 (which beckons the questions what is the '59 using now?). Anyhow, mine is a dual point dist without vac. adv. Bubba has added quite a few aftermarket (or beforemarket in the case of the dist.) pieces, like the piece of a truck fender that he RTV'd in place in the rear compartment area. He used the truck fender because of the nice flat areas. It covers the access holes that the factory no doubt forgot to install. Bubs found it easier to get to some of those pesky suspension bolts through a couple of holes it looks like he put in with a ball peen hammer. I am lucky he RTV'd it though, because who wants to die the horrible carbon monoxide death. I digress, and am hijacking the thread with stories that many of you no all to well. I would just like to know how Bubba makes a decent living whilest ars'n up all these Corvettes.
