Stupid dashboard question

Stupid dashboard question
What is that little light in the top of the '77-'82 center gauge cluster supposed to illuminate? Mine throws out light, but it diffuses into nothingness long before it can actually hit anything.

That's what I figured, but it doesn't get light anywhere close to the controls. More lovely engineering...

Sounds like you may have the wrong bulb in there. That light takes a special "projection" bulb. http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.3969

Good luck getting back in there! Mine required the whole center console to come out. I tried removing the glove box and speedo set but there wasn't enough room for my fat hands or my kids smaller ones. For no more light than it gives off it sure is a lot of trouble.
I still believe that the corvette builders jammed all the parts they wanted to use into as small a pile as they could make. Then poured fiberglass over it all and called it a vette.
