I am trying to figure out what I have for an engine. I know it's a GM 350 because of the block casting number (GM3970010). Not origional. But it is obviousely a redo because the id / vin numbers on the front of the casting are not standard.
Can anyone recognize?
Front pas side 3C686
K0 918 TJC
casting # Disp Year Mains Used int
3970010....302.....69....4... Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2... Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4
i have an ancient chiltons book, and it lists 3970010 as 70-71 truck, hi performance, or camaro. its a 350, and the only other thing you NEED to know is if it has 4 bolt mains. 3970010 came with both 2 and 4 bolt mains.and the heads if original wont last long on todays gas. ( no lead ).

missing Division number would be first: 1 = Chevrolet Division
3 = year of production (1973)
C = block assembly plant code - where???? not a vette plant
686 is the 686th block made that year
K is assembly plant for entire vehical - where??? again not a vette plant
0918 is September 18 (1973 of course)
TJC is engine code (not listed in my corvette books)
3970010 block was used in nearly every type of Chevrolet vehical (including corvettes) from '69 to '80 with both 2 and 4 bolt mains.
The K translates to the St. Catherines, Ontario plant in Canada. audiec has the application right- it's used in C20-3500 trucks. I would say from the Sept. build date, though, it was probably in a '74 model truck.
