Default fuel pump fix

I want to change fuel pump and rubber hoses from metal gas lines to the pump and carb.

Anyone have any secret tips on doing it without spilling much gas without empting gas tank.

Remove line from tank at the pump and plug. Otherwise turn car upside down. I can't think of much else.

I clamp the tank to steel line rubber hose and use a vac cap on the line near the eng.

I just did this last weekend. I put little vacuum line caps on the ends of the steel line were you take the rubber s hoses off. Didn't loose much gas at all.

Not really sure which lines u want to change? But it sounds like the 2 small flex lines with "S" bands at the pump and the metal line to the carb. So i'll do my best to explain those.

Well ur gonna spill some gas no matter. So have a catch pan and drip tray under the pump area. But u need to isolate the feed from the tank. You can use a vise-grips to clamp closed on the flex line at tank (behind passengers rear wheel) - i use some cloth in grips jaws to prevent chewing up flex line or whatever u come up with. Or u can remove and plug this line also by using any pliers to grip flex line clip clamp and slide it back - but be quick to plug flex line as entire fuel tank capacity is behind it.
Next you need to grip the fuel pump flex "S" lines clip clamps and slide back to remove hose. 1 hose for supply and 1 for vapor return. If u have an AC compressor its gonn'a be in the way - u may need to access from underneth car - good luck here. All these lines will have fuel in them so be ready - plan ahead and place rags to catch fuel as the lines come off and fuel drains.
U should use a "flare-nut" wrench on pump to carb line at pump and at the carb fitting to prevent galling the nut & threads.

I didn't like the stock routing so customized mine with fewer bends - all smooth and large radius for less restriction/better access. But then again i replaced my entire fuel sys - tank, pump & carb lines, EVC. Becareful of "while i'm at it desiese" while working on these cars.
