Don't worry theres not much reason to do it. I find accelerating much better than sitting there spinning wheels and my car was cammed to do either.

BTW I'm from rainchester too.

I do it all the time. Not just drop at 6000 but I have dumped it many times. It will not hurt anything. I have over 200 passes at the strip which is way rougher on the car than dumping the clutch.

Same here. I keep thinking that dropping the clutch and I am going to drop parts all over the road.

my 73 is powered by a zz4 385 horse, with new drive shaft and u joints.

the stock 4 speed is weak; even at that, i have dumped the clutch at 4000, caught rubber in 2 and 3, and things seem ok for now....

BUT, i know eventually i have to be prepared to pay the price.

i dump the clutch from about 4000 frequently, tires break loose immediatley. a hard launch at the strip on street tires feels like it loads the drive train harder. aprx 500 hp & 4 speed muncie...

My son has a time or two, but I can't seem to. Probably because I pay the bills.

I can't beleive you guys own a Vette and are afraid to burn some rubber! I drive mine hard every time I take it out. I have broken a rear but that was my own stupid fault. It was a 4.11 gear on a 3 series carrier and a spacer. It was looking to break. Other than that I have built everything with good components and have not had any problems at all. Unless you are running slicks or have real sticky tires you will break them loose long before anything breaks. Have at it.

The proper way to do a burn out.
I unfortuneatly missed the burn outs and the winner hitting the wall doing his doughnut. You can see #3 doing one though.
Either the winner stalled or didn't trust his rearend since he didn't do the wall burnout. 2nd place and 3rd did a good show though.
Indy at the glen.
The 640 size works pretty well.

If I did that with my 68, I would just sit there and smoke and burn the tires off the rims...I can't even take off from a standing stop without chirping the tires

By dumping the clutch do you mean sidestepping it? or just lifting as quickly as your tired old leg can lift? I actually thought slipping the clutch (with engine at high revs), ie letting it out slowly, was more damaging to the clutch than dumping it.

I wish I could be a little more brutal with my car. I couldn't do a proper burnout at the strip (uncoordinated? nowhere else to practice!) so I installed linelock. Still wish I had the guts to powershift, but with no rev limiter I am just a wuss!

you'd only cause damage if the tires gripped.

Hey, I just moved to Rochester recently to go to school. Know of any place cheap I can store my vette while in college. Insurance requires a garage. Also, I have yet to break the tires loose on my vette. I bought her and drove her about four times. Then had to head off to school in my daily driver and have been searching for a place to house her.

EXACTLY !!!
I Went to the super chevy corvette show in Paramus, NJ today and crossed paths with forum member KenD414 - my C3 man from hell! On the way home we were lighting up the tires at every stop (hes got one quick 69). Hazing tires through 1st and halfway through 2nd and a bark into 3rd just made a good day great from my view.

Keith! It was great seeing you. My son couldn't believe your car's launch! He's says DAD, THE GUYS CAR WANTS TO LEAVE IT"S BODY BEHIND! I laughed and told him it was nearly an "out of body experience". Your car is wicked man. Took all I had keeping up with you. It was nice running with the devil. Everytime you punched it, a banshee like scream and I kept thinking you were gonna shed that body or become airborne! My advice to you is get some headrests. Quick!
