Excluding cost of the motor, parts, etc what is the range a god shop would charge for doing an engine swap? I am in the middle of planning for the swap this spring (was going to do it in my car port) but now the wife and I have decided we are going to sell the house in the spring (April timeframe) and move out a little further since a) we don't like how the neighborhod is going and b) we had 50% appreciation here as opposed to further out so we want to trade location for space (includinga 2 car garage!).
So I either need to start earlier (not likley due to cold weather), have a shop do it, find someone to help me or postpone. So how much would a shop charge? I am thinking 10-15 hours of labor for an experienced, good mechanic? More? So about 1500?
i think it will take him one day but he will charge you for two days labor.....if some one else does it you lose the ability to "detail" the area
I know....the trade-offs. What is why I am trying to understand the coss involved. I can't imagine trying to swap the engine in th time leading up to a move (packing, house prep for sale etc etc), etc or, even worse, right after when my "honey do" list wil be much longer than normal. At the same time, I really do not want to put it off too long...
That is very close to what we charge, not including any materials or parts. This includes changing the break-in oil. It does take us 2 days. That allows us enough time to clean and detail as needed, and do it right!

Thanks. Kinda what I was figuring....And I would rather go to a good shop which will do it righ tthan some cut-rate guy who will cause more problems. I am thinking of calling a nearby shop which, while almost as prciey per hour as dealers here, specializes in BMW, Audi Ferrari and Porsche. I know of themthroughthe Audi club and they are VERY well respected in the area and very active with supporting local car clubs, SCCA< etc etc. Just nt sure if they would be interested int his type of work.
