Default Big block question..

Just replaced power steering bracket on 69..it broke when bolt vibrated out...but noticed slight mis-alignment of alternator belt to power steering pulley....is there a pulley kit for these alternators for BB application to get better alignment? (Delco Remy 12si,I think)...here is pic....

Brackets all good and fit right....but looks like alt pulley needs washer or shim to move it forward a bit....???
Also, I put locktite on all bolts to pwr steering/alternator brackets..

I used washers on the shaft, but same principle. Interesting that this is a widespread problem...

Hi ...

The pulley on the alternator is incorrect for PS setup.

The factory pulley has an additional 3/8" before the groove.

You can shim it with washers (bubba style) or get the correct pulley. I'm sure that they are available from Paragon, CC or Doc Rebuild.

I just had this problem fixed- went to the shop that built my alternator & the guy came out to see my car when he heard the solid lifters. We talked cars for a few minutes & he reshimmed the pulley at no charge.

Installed correct pulley....belt lines up good....but...look at tip of fan blade....it touched power steering pump shaft....just barely....

(The upper pic is with new pulley.)...took a cutting wheel, and flushed pump shaft with nut...tip of fan blade clears by 1/4" now...
