I'm looking at a 75 convetible that looks beautiful. However, upon inspection, the car's power steering wasn't working. Raising the hood I see that the PW pump is missing. The seller said that a previous owner had hit something low, and when the car was repaired, the Power Sterring pump pully rubbed the frame cross memeber section.
What would be the problem, how can this be fixed, and is this something that I should walk away from?
Sounds like a bent frame crossmember, or worse, and the previous owner did not want the expense of fixing it correctly. Don't see how one could straigten that crossmember without pulling the engine and radiator. Could be other things wrong also. If you can't tell, then you should not buy!
My power steering pully on my '75 is so close to the crossmember that it's a pain to get the belt on and off. My car was in a front end collision before I bought it - hard enough to crack the joint between the crossmember and frame. I had to have it welded. Probably frame damage.
