im sure others will know more about this, but in my c3 experience the numbers are very vague to say the least. they wont even give you interior color, or paint color. my guess is to hope you find the build sheet somewhere in your car. thats where the info is.

what there is a trim tag that tells you the paint code and interior color code
How can you tell what options were on your car are the numbers somewhere? Does the VIN tell you? How do you know?
As mentioned, the trim located on the driver's side windshield post will state the interior color and whether leather or cloth. It will also state by code the paint color. That's it unless you can find a window sticker or build sheet. VIN doesn't help at all.
Now GM offers a service where if you call the 800 number and send $50.00, they will send a copy of your invoice. You'll need your VIN. Search the archives...the number has been listed frequently...search on Invoice.
At one time there was a thread on here revealing a woman by the name of Peggy Vezina from GM that sent out copys of original dealer invoices. Shortly after I received mine I was told they are charging now.
All was needed was your vin code. I did mine via email to her.
In addition to all that, get the NCRS judging guide. It explains the parts on the car so you can tell if they are the correct ones. Using that book you can sort of figure out what is supposed to be on your car by comparing what's there to what the book says comes with it. Nothing beats a build sheet or dealer invoice.
