HELP IM STUCK,I went to bring home the '69 today but it refused to move. This thing has not been moved now for 10+yrs.I too the wheels off and found that it is definetly the emergency brake shoes inside of the rotor.Must be rusted to it.I cannot get to the adjuster through the inspection hole.I need help
I would release the Ebrake (hopefully already done) and take a rubber or rawhide mallet and give the rotor a couple of hits. This might dislodge the rotor from the shoes. If not you are in for a struggle.
If the insides are rusted, consider them non useable and don't worry about damaging the parking brake stuff during the removal. Things I'd try:
- Soak insides with WD-40 or something similar
- Take something (adjuster or screw driver) and really rap on the adjuster star wheel - you've got to get this backed off
- Don't hit the rotor with anything - it will just damage it
Getting the adjuster wheel to move is important because, chances are that the rear hat area (drum) has been worn down by the shoes. If they are fully expanded, they might be sitting in a groove where they operate. There is probably a lip on the edge of the drum and you'll never get the rotor off until the shoes are retracted. Once they're off, get a set of stainless steel parking brake innards...you won't regret it.

this is really hard to see but where the cable attaches to the lever under the rear caliper always seems to rust.....i would soak the crap out of that with wd 40 and keep trying to work that lever...
If you are sure the (little) parking brakes are the problem, you could let the car warm up and use your engine (hundreds of HP can break a lot loose) to break them free. The only concern would be if you were afraid that something in the driveline might fail.
I have soaked everything that I could spray with BLASTER,I cannot get at the adjuster at all.Everyone thinks that the rotors go on any way, well there is only one right way and that is to line up the hole for that DAMN adjuster .The motor has not run for a while also and I prefer to turn it over by hand after putting some oil down the cylinders befre I just use horsepower to get it rolling.
Well I got it to roll today thanks to a fellow forum member,Provette67.He got the adjuster on the one side to backoff some and we used the winch on his trailer to drag it and it finally came loose. Thanks Provette67 and all of the other forum members who offered me advice and help
