I have this 76 ... in pretty good shape ... everything is stock ...numbers match .... thinking I am gonna keep it stock as to keep value in the vehicle ...
talked with the oldest owner still alive and he sold it with 42k original on the odometer,(bought it from original owner), next owner had it 3 years and sold it with 49k and last owner had it 5 years sold it to me with 54k on it .... so it appears that it has only 54k on it but the title says exempt on the miles... talked with the girl at DMV and she said it could have been put in exempt status because of the broken needle... seems hokie to me but it is a chance I guess ... I have seen some posts here where using the VIN that it can be traced thru the dealer... so if you know how I can do this PM me ...
my dilemmea ... no tunes ... speedo got a busted needle and tach isnt working .. exhaust is way too quite ...
I am thinking I can find a used center dash console to cut for a good stereo ... headers and a good exhaust system ... has anyone had their tach or speedo rebuilt??? are the replacements any good??
input and leads on anyparts, suggestion etc etc ... thanks....
My needle fell off my 68 speedometer many years ago. I removed the speedometer from the car and carefully disassembled it and fixed the needle myself. Lightly lubricated while I had it apart and then used an electric drill and a short section of cable to test it before I put it back in. I am not Mr. Goodwrench and if I can do it so can you. Work on a table with a towel under it so you can see everything and keep track of parts. Good winter project.

In FLA (among many other states), an exemption on reporting the odometer reading is allowed based on the vehicle's age. Not sure of the FL cut-off year, but that's why it's marked "exempt".
A replacement center cluster dash is avalable from most Corvette supply houses fpr little money. Good lusk with your new Vette.
Get the one with the cutout for a cd player. You can even buy it with the cd player/radio installed. Make sure you keep your original dash in case you or the next owner wants to go back to original.

I just bought the 73, a two owner car with mileage noted on the original and current title. However in Florida they do not recognize the miles on an older car and will issue the new title as 'exempt' I just made copies of the older title and can document the miles to this date.
In California you do not have to register the miles on a car older than XX years. It is mileage exempt. And of course I forgot the number of years. But I remember reading it when I bought my 72.
