Default 68 Convert or 69 Big Block?

Okay I'm thinking of nuw buying either a 69 427 Vette 4sp but not numbers matching but an original Big Block 400 Horse Tri Power car.. Or a 68 Convertible matching Number 327 4sp car

I'm really deciding... The Big Block looks nasty (Cool) With that hood and Heavy Duty Half Shafts and in that Blue colour.

The 68 looks supe sharp and nice with Black Interior and exterior.

Both are same price.. Both are good condition Frames solid.

What would you guys think.. I'm adding it to my collection LOL

Then I'll send pics..

Which one? ? ? ? ?

What are your intended uses for the vette. Is it going to be driven, autocrossed, drag raced, I would go with the non numbers car. If I were keeping one for the long haul and showing or trying for NCRS I would get the numbers match car and enjoy it that way.

If it were me, I would probably buy the BB. I am one who cannot leave well enough alone and want to tinker with the toys when I get them home. Just look at my 70 that was numbers matching when I got it. The block still has the correct numbers but that is about it though.

I'm a driver, and I like a nice car, and I want to use it. Just as they did back in the day. I'm 34 and don't want to spend the rest of my days siting on a chair by my car watching passers by. I want to drive it on the Hyways and Biways and stretch those 400 horses. LOL

That's what I'm thinking.
Maybe the 427 is a better bet even though it's not numbers matching.

To have something and not use it periodically for what it's purpose was is a sin. LOL

Buy the big block. These cars are meant to be driven not collected. Driving the big block will be a blast.

If a daily driver make sure you make friends with the guy that owns the gas station because you will see him everyday and sometimes twice a day.

Buy the ragtop. Pull the engine and pickle it.
Build or buy a subsolar sized BB or even a 427 sb. Modern lt-1? whatever meets your needs.

RAGTOP

Or whichever has the better paint job.

The '68 will handle much better, and nothing beats a 'vert for cruising!

Well, I own a 68, its a convert, and a big block...nothing like a BB, top down, rolling down that two lane blacktop, wind ripping through your hair...

I suppose, you can remove the roof panels and get the same affect as a convert....plus you have a BB. Love the BB's

Default T-top BB is just as wild!

Once you pop the tops and drop the rear window, you're drivin a vert with a roll bar! I've ridden in many a BB/SB vert and there is virtually no diffierence from a coupe when the tops and rear window are stowed. Unless you have a real softspot for a vert, go with the BB coupe; you'll never be sorry!

I have the same car (400 NOM 69 coupe) as you're looking at. When it's my car and a bunch of SBs at a cruise-in, when the hood's up the crowd is around your car, not there's.
Does it still have the tri-power? If so, it will attract a crowd wherever you go! Then, there is the thrill of having gobs of torque at your command!

Choose the NOM BB coupe - Game over!

I didn't see where anyone asked which 327 was in the 68, a 327/350hp would kind of sway me more toward the convertible. But I'm looking at it from a second vette point of view, already have the big block 4spd coupe. For having just one car the big blocks are hard to beat for driving fun.

I know where your coming from but there are 3 huge diffs between these.
1st is looks, they certainly don't look the same.
2nd is blind spot, you still have it on the T-top since only the top is gone.
3rd is speed and convenience, which is kind of reversable for a t-top.
I can put my top up or down at a stop light without getting out... or more important if it starts raining too hard The ragtop stows much more easily just swinging into position with no worry of paint to be chipped, although there is the plastic rear window. But then again there is the glass window to remove/replace and stow.
The T-top has the benefit of sealing the interior where the ragtop is still vented with it up.

If I remember correctly the T-tops also have a reverse flow inside the cockpit when opened up?

I went today again to see the 68Vert and the 69 BB
The 69 is NOT Numbers Matching. But an original BB 427 400 horse tri power with a 427 tri power in it now.
The 68 Vert is a numbers matching car
Both are in good shape.

I'm sort of siding with the BB... Being matching numbers or not. It is in good shape.

Do you guys think it is a better to deal to grab the 68 and drop a BB or get the 69 and have fun?

The way it is now I think my heart is set on the 69 BB

Thanks for your responses

You will enjoy the convertible more. More power is easy to add if you feel the need.

I love a BB as much as the next guy, but I would go with the vert. You can always add a BB. Its not as easy to make a TT a convertible. It also depends where you live. If you live somewhere with nice weather or somewhere where it rains a lot.
