Default Tire availability? WTF?

Had a valce stem go bad on my 255x60x15 Goodyear GTIIs and ruined the tire....Discount Tire tells me that tire has been discontinued!
I imagine Tire Rack has em, but was shocked. The guy acted like everyone has discontinued them. Thoughts?

They may be right. On the tire search page on tirerack they list the GTII as "available 12/09" but on the GTII page it says not available:

Discount with its 630 or so stores does more volume than anyone in the country so if they can't get them, no one can.

You may want to try a local mom and pop service station and see if they can locate any. I did that when I needed GSC's for my C4 and they were out of production for two years and I called a small shop and they found two rears for me.

just a thought....

Good ideas...I've checked multiple main stores with the same result...1 or 2 said they would order them, but are probably not aware of this situation.....I am frankly amazed that such a common size would be discontinued. I would go with 17's and get runflats, but fear the suspension would not respond as well with those (harsher ride, etc).

How old are your tires? It may be time for a fresh set...

This is exactly why I went with 17's. I got tired of trying to find good 255x60x15 tires.

A cursory search of E-Bay found these:

I know they're not the correct size, but if you're patient, you'll eventually find them on E-Bay.

You can go with the Goodyear Eagle #1 Nascar in 255/60/15 you can only order them thru a Goodyear store. I've had mine for 2 months now and they work great. The only drawback was I had to put $300.00 down with the order and it took 10 weeks to get them.
PS. These have the white lettering not yellow.

I have the same tires and recently had a nail in a tire. I took it to the local Goodyear shop to get it patched and upon getting it out of the truck and handing it to the tech he said "Geez. I haven't seen one of these in a long time". He wasn't joking either.

Bought a set of GTIIs back in July from Tire Rack. Of course, that's no help to anyone now. Maybe I got the last set, one of em was even dated 2002!
