But to be even safer, why don't you just send ME the money to my P.O. Box and I'll hop on the first flight available to Italy and if it doesn't check out, I'll send you the money back!
P.S. I can't give you my real name because I'm also an undercover agent for the FBI...
I had a guy try to sell me a 1966 Mustang GT and he said he had moved to Italy and the car is with him. Asking price was $6,000 and the car looked flawless with many custom mods. It was too good to be true. He told me he needed money fast because he was going through a divorce and his wife wants half of his money. He told me the transaction would be through Ebay and that it would be covered by their Vehicle Purchase Protection program and that he would contact Ebay if I was interested. I did some searching on Ebay and found out that their V.P.P only covers transactions in the US and Canada and not overseas. *Red Flag!* I decided to play with him and told him I was interested anway. He later sent an email saying that he contacted Ebay and gave them his information, and while I was reading that email, an email from Ebay came in and it looked fake. It said that Ebay was contacted by this seller and to move forward with the transaction that I would need to send my name and adress to Ebay. The address was Support@EbaySafetyHarbor.com. Ebay has a thing called Safe Harbor but not Safety Harbor. I sent Ebay the fake email and they responded the next day and said it was fake. I then asked the seller if he would agree to make the transaction through an escrow service like Escrow.com instead of Ebay. I never heard from him again. I think he knew I was on to him.
Note: At one point I had asked him for the VIN of the Mustang and he told me that Italy doesn't use VIN's. Yeah right! If they can't provide some sort of VIN then don't buy the car!
Play with some without giving any more info than you have already. Change the rules so you know that "IF" it were to happen you would be safe IE: not through Ebay or Paypal (especially), money not receivable until delivery made kinda deal. Having a "friend" check it for you is a good hint that you are too savvy for scams, or better yet a legit car inspection (insurer) to come by and give the okay on the car and get all pertinent info such as VIN and Engine ID's and OWNERS ID INFO etc. You'll most likely be dropped like a hot rock for protecting yourself cause the whole idea is to appear to be despirate and trustworthy so you overlook your own safety.
#1 It's a scam.
#2 Does Italy actually have Zip codes?
#1. Too good to be true - Scam
#2. Italy does have postal zips and that one is legit for Brescia. Had I but known of this, my daughter was in Milan this past weekend. Milan is but an hour from Brescia. She could have confirmed the car and persons existence, or lack thereof.
I do have family in Teriny Italy that is around 40mil North East of Rome so i think i might ask them to pay him a vist and i do think he will go running for the hill
Billy
Leave your family out of it.
They will not run for the hills.
They will happily meet them,
Rob them,
Leave em in a ditch.
I received a similar reply to a Corvette I inquired about because the price seemed ridiculously low. My seller was located in London and the car was on e-bay.
E-bay shut down the auction as it was a S C A M.
Do not go down this road, you will be sorry.
Kurt
Hi The same guy i contacted about a 69 bb camero . I ask him how the scam works, he would not tell me.I geuss he just gets whatever he can . and dissapears. My logic is any dealer would pay more for these cars than they are being offered for.
