T top trim removal
I have removed the 3 piece stainless metal trim from the tops. They are both screwed and riveted on in places. The screws are removed by sticking a philips head screwdriver into the rubber weatherstripping, where you will see a small slit. The rivets must be drilled out. Carefully and patiently pry up on the wide piece of stainless, as it has a tar like substance that holds it to the fiberglass shell. One piece of stainless is crimped on, and must be removed slowly, carefully, without bending or twisting it very much, I use a soft piece of wood and a small hammer for tapping it off.
Also, this weekend we went to Plesanton (Goodguys Car Show) where I seen a 72 (in the show) where the paint was coming loose all along this area... probably due, to not taking the trim off and sanding & cleaning properly. Just a guess...sure didnt like the looks of it!
Thanks Tombags for the thread, and thanks heaps Early Shark for the advice... question though... how might you re crimp in the crimp area?
Thanks in advance, Don
