Default 68 seats, recover or replace?

The seats on my 68 are starting to look rough.
I know replacement covers are made for them in vinyl or leather.
But I noticed many companies make universal sport seats for less than the cost to recover mine. They look to have better support, tilt and are adjusing too. Besides I wanted cloth covered for my non-AC convertible.
Anyone tried the Summit, APC, Monza, etc universal seats?

I was in the same situation this spring with my 68 ragtop. I ordered new foam and vinyl covers from Yankee Lady and had them installed locally for $100.00 per seat. Best move I ever made
They look great, feel great and It kept the car original. Best yet; There's something about the smell of vinyl that really gets me going

Send the '68 seats to me, then buy the sport seats .

Seriously, if you want the better sport seats at least hang on to the originals. You'd be surprized how much even just the frames and hardware are worth, not to mention, should a prospective buyer in the future want to bring your car back to original (even if it's just in appearance).

If you opt to sell them, you'll probably get a fair amount of $$ for them but if you ever want to buy them back, forget it.

I'd recover the originals (and have in my case), but at least hang on to them if you opt to buy the other seats.

It's not all that difficult to recover your originals.

Naaaa, I was just going to set them out on the curb for the garbage man to pick up. Along with my original 1968 seat/shoulder belts, door push trim rings, coffee can wiper door actuator, wood grain steering wheel, and turn indicator switch.

It looks like the vinyl replacement covers are about $250/pair. But I would really like cloth. Again, black convertible, no AC.
I've never seen cloth replacement covers, but I have seen cloth replacement seats for $150-220 each. Just debating what to do.
I know an upholstry shop could use the old covers as patterns, but I suspect the cost would be even higher.
Anyone had cloth replacement covers made?

The seats in my 68 had been "customized" when I got it. I found the original foam in good shape under added foam, bought original seat covers, a box of hog rings and some hog ring pliers. Sat down on the carpet in front of the tv for a couple of evenings and made me some seats. Those other seats are cheaper, but nothing I would want to sit in for very long. If you want an upgrade, go to late model c3 (78 Pace car & 79 - 82) seats, or C4 or C5 seats. The look good, feel good, and keep your vette all vette.
