Hello All,
A body shop quoted me 40 hours labour to remove the old front clip (which is a 73) and replace it with a one piece 72 frontclip. It includes putting on the correct bumpers and brackets. Does this sound about right ?
Thanks in advance

It's pretty hard to judge. I've done it a few times, the removal is hard to judge how it will go, sometimes it comes off real easy and sometimes not. I pulled mine off in about half an hour and one of my buddies (a 73) in about an hour and that was with a stubborn frame extension and rad support (someone welded it in palce, it was the wrong one for his year) but I could see it taking a couple of hours to remove it if there are problems along the way (before people think I just pulled the clips off, no I didn't both came off without any damage at all). Properly fitting the new one isn't that much work as far as positioning it properly and bonding it on, however getting all the seams right could take some time.
If there is no attempt to salvage the clip being removed then there is only a couple of hours involved in removing the old clip. Not being a professional, I don't think that I could properly align and mount a 72 clip with bumpers, grills, etc. in 40 hours. But I would think that it was a reasonable quote from a professional. Big-G want to jump in here with your insight?
We charge 30 hours for same year replacement. Some extra time will be required to adapt bumpers and wiper door areas. 40 hours may be a bargain indeed. BTW, our labor rate is $48...This is body labor only, no paint time in estimate. G/L
Thanks al for the advice.I believe the guy will do a good job having seen some of his other work. I'm having them do it while an insurance claime is underway. I wasn't planning on doing this now but as long as itsin the shop might as well.
