A tornado struck in my county, one mile from my home. We had tornadic winds. The three car detached garage I have my three vettes in was damaged by over pressurerization. The garage door in front of my red 71 coupe was blown in but by the grace of God and luck, the door opener rod and door locks suspended the door above my car and the door never touched it. The cars are covered in dust, rain and wind blown debris! The entire roof was raise two or three inches, cracking the sheet rock all around the ceiling, bowed out the walls and blew the rear windows, frame and all, completely out of the garage and into the pasture out back. The entire garage will have to be replaced. I am in Florida working for two weeks and haven't been able to see it all in person but I consider myself a lucky guy. The main house only systained light damage and my wife and 2 dogs are all safe! I guess I better get home and check the thee cars for paint damage before the insurance guys try to settle! Any recommndations on other things I should look for and keep in mind through this crisis and rebuild?

I believe I would have someone close by come over and get the door down before it falls on the vette. The wind has been a steady breeze all day here in East Tennessee and it is some kind of cold. I am sure a door would do enough damage on its own but with it being so cold it may do even worse damage.
Glad no one was hurt though. My area was spared most of the storm. We just got lots of rain out of it.
You are one lucky guy. Glad your family is fine. The material things can be replaced. Tornadoes are a scary event. I grew up in Indiana and have survived a direct hit so I know what your family went through.
Rick,
Glad to hear you and your family are alright.
Hope you are enjoying that retirement. I am about to get back from Iraq and then enjoy the civilian life in Murfreesboro.
Take care. Scott
I can only imagine the state of shock and awe that you are in. You shouldn't take any more chances. I'm located in Central, AL. bring that 71 coupe down here and I'll store it in my garage for you. You just can't be too safe in my opinion.
Man...you are lucky and glad to here your wife is ok...I would consider adding some vents in the overhead of your garage...just re-did roof on my house, and had fixed vents added in roof....and garage for climate control...but that should work in your case of "over-pressurization" relief...
These are normally directed towards the "prevailing" winds.....low to roof and about 24" wide...don't use the "rotating" type...

Glad you made out ok. Amazing that so much damage was done from a tornado one mile away. Isn't it weird that you fly around the world putting yourself in harms way dodging bullets and bombs and this force of nature nearly wipes your home off the map?
