I believe that was a 73 vert running. Correct?
Now that I have seen it again, it was a 69. The whole rear end of the vette was torn off.

Was until they broke it in half. Is that a real Cobra they are using? I'd love to run those open roads in my car.

I would think that is a real Cobra. This movie is from 1976. No reason not to use a real Cobra for a movie.

I would think it was real also. Probably not many replicas being made in 76

All the cars are real, and most of the actors did most of their own driving. There's a great article somewhere about the making of the movie (Popular Mechanics I think) that I'd love to get my hands on.
I love Gumball, I was 12 when it came out, and have loved Cobras and Daytonas ever since!!

I think Brock Yates (I think from C&D) was one of the original organizers and participants. Was he in the movie? I think he drove a Dodge Chllenger 440 6pk.

Just read Brock Yates book,Cannonball. The first one was run May 1971..."Cannonball Baker Sea -to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash"...good read..pictures,etc..think the last run was 1979...
I remember an article may years ago in Sports Illustrated about Dan Gurney getting a ticket in Arizona...that big Dodge caught the Ferrari Datona (cause Gurney stayed at 120 MPH)...he went thru this little town at 90 mph...and the officer chased after him..

They still run a different rally. I think it is still caled the One Lap of America. More of a timed event from location to location.

Yeah, not quite the same.
Worse yet was that reality show a couple years ago playing off the name Cannonball Run.
