Anybody ever try these hood hinges from American Freedom roducts that allow you to take the hood off and then put it back on without ever having to readjust it? Wondering of they're worth the money.I need to take my hood off to modify it and add a L88 scoop. It lines upgreat and I don't want to mess with it if I don't have to.
I don't know anything about those hinges but adjusting the hood is pretty easy. I'd like to take credit for knowing this, but I watched my painter do it when they put my car back together.
1. Loosen the bolts.
2. Set the hood down on the latches.
3. Adjust the gaps to make you happy.
4. Lay underneath the front and use a long 1/4" extension to tighten the bolts.
5. Make sure the gaps are still where you want them.
6. Lift the hood and tighten any bolts left.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, but wouldn't you have to replace the existing hinges to the removable type anyway? So you would be, first removing it to install the new hinges, second adjusting the hood with the new hinges to a proper fit, and then after that you would be able to take advantage of the new setup. So if you are only planning on removing it once to add the scoop why not just spit a little flat black on the hinge and mounting point, and use that reference to re-align?
427 you are 1/2 correct here. I thought that too. The directions say to do one side at a time so as to keep the hood alignment. Don't know if thaat really works but that's their tag line...I think laying under the car is cheaper in the end. Like your logic a lot too.
