So, I bit on the Tomzwheelz offer posted this past weekend in the Part for Sale section for the TT 2s. It's a good deal IMHO. Anyway, next up on the agenda is what gind of tire to mount on them. I'm looking for a good tire for round town use. Not planning to drag it or anything, just need a decent tire with all the usual requirements: good handling, good traction, decent tread wear, and low road noise.
The front C5 rims I have are 17x8.5" and have 245/45 ZR17.
They are a bit wider and about an inch shorter than my 255/60 R15s.
These come from the factory ... Goodyear F1 EMT, but I don't
think I would pay the price to get a new set of these.
They are like $3-400 each new.
Well, do you want cheap or good? For low cost I'd recommend Kumho. Around $100/tire in 255/50-17. I had them on my 71. Decent tire.
If you want a good tire I'd recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE750. I have the previous version, the RE730 on my 71 right now. Quiet, excellent grip wet or dry and long lasting. Very happy with these tires and I'm going with the RE750 next time.
I am running 255 45 17s all around right now. I just bought a set of 18X10 wheels and am going to go 275 40 18s in the rear. I was happy with the 255 45 17s and they did not rub anything. I had Fuzion tires all around and this was/is a very good inexpensive tire.
