Default 1969 DATA plate decoding?

Can anyone help me here.
I have a 1969 data plate for this car I'm interested in.

What does this mean ZQ4 983 (paint probably green) and B17

so ZQ4 983 B17

Those three codes I have seen on the data plate inbetween drivers door.

Any one Please PLEASE let me know Thanks

Nowhere Man
Thanks for the quick response... So 983 is Green...

and ZQ4 Black Interior

So last code is B17

Close to solved.. But probably the most important.. I want to check it compared to the casting date of the block, and see if this thing has been restamped..

Anyone else can crack this B17 code?

First month of production was Sept 68. So B17 should be Oct 17, 1968.

My V.I.N ends with 1889 and that does fall into month of Sept.

I'm so appreciative of all your help on this one.

Now the only other thing is.

How do you determine for sure it's a Big Block car..

Do you look at tach redline? Size of Half Shafts?
Any other things.. Oil pressure Gauge?

Any help would be great.

and once again Thanks Guys!!

BB cars have the following:

tach redline: 5600 rpm for 390 and 400 hp
6500 rpm for 435 and 430 hp

larger front sway bar and rear sway bar(no rear sway in SB cars)
copper radiator
caps on ujoints off rear differential

The rear differentials are coded for HD so check the numbers on it.

On the Differential these are the codes I found

OA 2 03 W7E1

I don't know exactly what this means. and I checked these numbers like 10 times. to see if it was AO or anything else.

Would do you think this code means. These were the only codes on the diff I found.

The OA code is from 76 or 77 with a 3.08 ratio...looks like yours is 77.

Holy S$$$!!!!!! The car I'm looking at is a 1969 Corvette and apparently a Big Block car... But the car does not have the original engine... The only thing that seems to match is the tranny. The VIN is stamped in the side. It is a Muncie. and it's coe is #3925660 and it also shows P9R-5 on the tranny

If that rear end is out of a 76 or 77... I'm staying as FAARRR WAAYYYYY as possible from this vehicle... LOL

Let me know again for sure is you guys know that code is coming from a 76 or 77 and if something looks fishy with that Tranny code too.

Thanks again guys... LOL

TherRear diff was swapped out instead of being rebuilt--not a big deal considering the engine isn't original. The internals are all the same with the yokes the only difference. Does this rear have the standard yokes?

Holy Greg... I don't know... I do know that the half shafts are bigger.. But that all I can tell, and that it's posi. Both wheels turn the same direction..

Isn't the rear out of a 69 BB car beefier than a 76/77 car.. Or is it possibly the same in terms of stength?

I can't believe it though... LOL
I don't think this car is worth anything... You can't verify anything... LOL Considring the engine didn't match.. Okay fine... But to know the rear end too... Who can verify what this car was.. Really not worth much. My interest has just drop off a cliff for this car.. LOL

In nearly 40years who knows what happend to this car.. Or really what it is. LOL

Greg, Thanks for the info.
Knowing this detail to indentify BB cars. Is there any other detail?
What rach redline did the small blocks have?

Too bad chevy didn't have fender tags like those freakin Mopars. LOL
