Well I'm not in thearphy yet.MRI shows bludging disk.a degentering disk and some arthritus back there in my lower back.I'm not overweight.I guess after 30 some years of work has taken it's toll.My sister has had surgery about 6 mos ago and is still not much better.I'm susposed to go in for a bone density scan next week.Besides the patch I'm also on vicodin 10/500.Doc says only thing left is surgery.I'm going to stall on that until I see how my sister's turns out
Do some research and find the best orthopedic back surgeon in your area, then seek his opinion. If he is the best, he will not be pushy, and will give you honest advice. I had a problem for 20 yrs, tried everything, chiropractic, exercises, months of physical theropy. When I decided that I was handicapped for more then 6 Mos. out of the year I thought to myself what would a professional athelete do, they can't screw around, I went straight to the Orthpedic, had a Microdiscectomy - a one inch incission, and I haven't felt this good in 20 yrs. At least check your options from a real professional.
I'm an MD that works in Workers' Comp. Surgery should only be considered as a last resort, and only for certain types of injuries. Are you doing your exercises that you learned in therapy (if they in fact ever sent you)? A strong back is the best defense against pain and debility for most back patients.
This is correct...exercise....most back surgeries do not work out well..heard this many times....I had "frozen shoulder" once...could not lift my arm above my head..hurt to lift a drink...found a site on internet that gave instructions for exercise using a dumbbell..(1 pound)..3 months later pain was gone....took no pain killers,either...
I think exercise plays a big part in getting better. My wife has had two surgeries, read the Sarno book, had a nerve oblation...refuses to exercise or try and work through the pain and is miserable..........
