I'm horrified but relieved to find out this... I'm getting this code from a 69 BB car... (Apparently a BB car) LOL
So any other way to confirm that this is indeed a 76-77 rear end and not a 1969 rear end? LOL
I checked codes for the 1969 model year and the only thing close I was thinking that was listed was AO which is a 3.70 gear but it reads OA !!! So I was thinking maybe the GM factory made a mistake when inputting the code and by mistake stamped OA instead of AO... LOL
Any possibility... NOT LOL
I am flabergasted and shocked... Tell me more guys... You guys are my Freaking Saviors!!!
It could be stamped backwards real easy at the factory. I am not sure that 7 is the year as the numbers and letters don't read right. Many rear ends have been exchanged at corvette shows and by rebuilders.
You could pull the cover and count the teeth-
2.73 - 41 and 15
3.08 - 37 and 12
3.36 - 37 and 11
3.55 - 32 and 9
3.70 - 37 and 10
4.11 - 37 and 9
You will at least now for sure what your ratio is.
If you go to that post I have going in tech I just did a 69 BB diff. The date code is cast into the housing on the drivers side. The internal posi case and spider gears are different between 69 and 76. It may/may not have the older little sq window vs the larger tear drop rear opening. The spinder would be 10-18's vs the better 10-17's. That's lot of work for a date code though. If it runs ok and you like the gear leave it alone otherwise you're going to be doing more work then you need to.
