Is it a **** with a cable-type cable (like a throttle cable), or an electrical-type **** with a electrical-wire cable?
If it's the latter (i.e., electrical), sounds to me like someone installed either the 1/4-mile or mile-dial. These activated a solenoid in the carb float bowls that alowed you to adjust your jetting over about 8 ranges while driving the car. Very cool, but I don't know how reliable they were. This attachment could be used with several of the Holley models and would be a collector piece now.
